Arrive in Tanzania

Welcome to Tanzania!

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be met by our local team and transferred to our first lodge, located at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. This lodge is a special mother-and-daughter-owned property that offers an opportunity to begin your journey immersed in Maasai culture while surrounded by breathtaking views of the Tanzanian landscape.

After settling into your traditional Maasai-style accommodations, take time to relax, explore the grounds, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

This evening, gather with your fellow travelers for your first dinner together and begin getting to know the incredible women who will be sharing this adventure with you.

A Day with The MaaSai

Today offers a unique opportunity to experience Maasai culture through hands-on experiences hosted by the community that calls this region home.

Throughout the day, you'll participate in curated experiences alongside Maasai community members, including a walking safari through the surrounding landscape, crafting with Maasai women, and visiting a nearby school to learn more about daily life in the region. You'll even have the chance to try your hand at traditional spear throwing and gain insight into customs that have been passed down through generations.

As the day comes to a close, gather with the community for a traditional ceremonial dance, celebrating a day filled with connection, learning, and cultural exchange.

City Life & Women Entrepreneurs

This morning, we'll travel to Arusha, one of northern Tanzania's most vibrant cities. Here, we'll spend time meeting local women entrepreneurs and small business owners who are creating opportunities within their communities through innovation, resilience, and leadership. Their stories offer an inspiring look into modern Tanzania and the power of women's economic empowerment.

After free time for lunch, we'll continue our journey toward Karatu, a charming town nestled in the lush highlands near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Tonight, we'll settle into our beautiful lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening before the safari portion of our adventure begins.

Safari Game Drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

Today marks the beginning of our safari experience. Wake up with the sun to descend into the legendary Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as one of Africa's greatest wildlife destinations. Home to an extraordinary concentration of animals, the crater offers opportunities to spot elephants, lions, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, and perhaps even the endangered black rhino.

Following our game drive, we'll continue into the Ndutu and Serengeti region, known for its wide-open plains and exceptional wildlife viewing.

As the sun begins to set across the savannah, settle into camp and enjoy your first evening surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Keep your camera ready as we search for Africa's famous Big 5: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo.

Every game drive brings new opportunities for unforgettable encounters, breathtaking scenery, and the kind of moments that make a safari truly magical. Who knows? You may even spot all five before the journey is over!

Spend three nights at a boutique beachfront resort, enjoying time to relax while experiencing the island's unique blend of African, Arab, and Indian influences. During your stay, you'll also enjoy a locally guided cultural experience, such as sailing aboard a traditional dhow boat, meeting the inspiring women of Zanzibar's seaweed farming cooperatives, or visiting a nearby village to learn more about daily life on the island.

Women this trip supports

Throughout our time in Tanzania, we intentionally support local communities, women entrepreneurs, and organizations creating meaningful change. This trip has a ton of thoughtful details that directly support the communities we’re visiting, including our visit to a Maasai lodge, our local women guides, women business owners in Arusha, and community leaders we meet along the way. Through our partnership with Unite the World with Africa Foundation, Cherish travelers also help support local girls in attending secondary school, creating opportunities for the next generation of women leaders while gaining a deeper understanding of life, culture, and community in Tanzania.
