Arrivals - Day One

Fly into Mt. Kilimanjaro to start your Tanzanian Safari vacation. Don't stress about a thing upon your arrival at the airport. Cherish handles all of the details and will pick you up to take you to our first hotel at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Check into the woman-owned accommodations that directly benefit the local Masaai people.

Day Two

Immersive Experience with the Masaai

Learn about the Masaai culture through hands on experiences at the lodge. The lodge you are staying at is fully operated and ran by local Masaai people. Enjoy a full day with curated experiences alongside the Masaai, take a walking safari, craft with Masaai women, visit a nearby school, participate in spear throwing, and end the day with a traditional ceremonial dance.

Day Three

City Life in Tanzania

Say goodbye to the Maasai Lodge and the beautiful people you met there. Enjoy breakfast and head out for a short drive into one of Tanzania's largest cities, Arusha.
Today you will have the opportunity to learn more about Tanzania city-life and see a big city firsthand. Visit a local market for shopping, go to an art center that employs disabled people, and visit Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre which is the largest in Africa.

Day Four

Further Exploring Tanzania's Culture

Start your day with an easy cycling tour through banana plantations and local villages in Mto wa Mbu. After the brisk cycling tour, enjoy lunch at a local farm, visit elephant caves, and visit a local farming village. The evening is yours to relax back at the mountainside lodge. Enjoy dinner and drinks, visit the orphanage that the lodge directly supports, or simply lounge around after a long day of exploring.

Day Five

Safari Game Drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

Today is a special day - you will descend to the amazing Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. About 20 kilometers across, 600 meters deep, and 300 sq kilometers in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder.
The crater walls provide a natural fence for a heavy concentration of wildlife on the ground floor. You can spot lions, hippos, rhinos, zebra, flamingos, hyenas, and more.

Day Six-Eight

Safari Continues in Ndutu & the Serengeti

After exploring Ngorongoro and the surrounding areas, take a stunning drive to the Ndutu Region of Tanzania. Your local guide will know the best places to track down and spot wildlife. The group will spend the next few days exploring Ndutu and the Serengeti. Let's see if you can find all of Africa's Big 5!

Arrival Hotel - Mt. Kilimanjaro

Welcome to Tanzania! Our first accommodations are built and run by the Maasai and offers the opportunity to stay in traditional bomas with a European high-class standard. On clear days catch stunning v iews of Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru. The pool, massage rooms, sauna with kili-view and rest areas are just right for relaxation and regain strength. With a total of 16 original Maasai-bungalows with luxury amenities this property guarantees exclusivity and authenticity.

Mountain Views - Outside of Arusha

Quietly tucked away on the top of a hill in rural Africa our next lodge is built with indigenous hardwood and in traditional African style. It is in complete harmony with its surroundings. It has a spacious set up, personal and friendly service, and its finishing touches, such as cozy sofas around the fireplace and warm decorative details, provide a perfectly balanced luxury. With only fifteen individual tents, this lodge has an intimate charm. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda with splendid views.

Things to Know: This woman owned property directly supports the adjacent children's orphanage. This is a luxury tented lodge with a long remote drive to reach its stunning location. There is no airconditioning or heat, however the staff supplies bed heaters during turn down service.

Safari Lodge - Ndutu

Our next lodge is situated in the south-eastern part of the Serengeti. It is a famous historic safari lodge with over 50 years of experience hosting safari guests, professional photographers, scientists and more. The stone and thatch cottages are naturally cool due to the thick walls and they provide simple and comfortable accommodation.

Things to Know: This property is not fenced in, so you are one with wildlife. Sit near the bonfire and observe the resident wildlife from a safe distance. Staff will direct you when/if predators are in the area.

Safari Lodge - Serengeti

Welcome to the center of the Serengeti! Cherish selected this particular safari lodge to explore the heart of the Serengeti. This lodge boasts elegant tents built on raised wood platforms with en-suite facilities and an outside shower. Enjoy a refreshing shower under the stars! Each tent has its private terrace to enjoy the landscape and the environment.

Things to Know: The hotel also has its own foundation which supports different projects to improve the living conditions of the local population through sanitation and education. This property is not fenced in, staff will direct you when/if predators are in the area.

Zanzibar Extension - Beachside Hotel

Sharazād is a family-owned property that is named after the legendary queen and the storyteller of One Thousand and One Nights. The name has Persian origins -meaning 'she whose land is free'; as well as 'pretty woman', 'wise woman', and 'woman with the liberty of mind'. This is a beachfront property with stunning surroundings.

Arrival Information:
Airport information - Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

Cherish facilitates all group transportation for your trip, including picking you up from the airport and dropping you off for your departure flight. Kilimanjaro International Airport is approximately 1 hour away from our first lodge. We will arrange transfers based on each guest's arrival and will group similar arrival times into group transfers. Suggested arrival time prior to 5:00 PM on the arrival day to allow enough time for pick up and transfer from the airport in order to join the group dinner at 7:00 PM.

Departure Information:
Airport information - Tanzania Airport of Choice

Cherish will facilitate a regional flight for guests who are ending their trip after the Safari portion from the Serengeti airstrip back to the international airport of choice within Tanzania. All guests continuing on to Zanzibar will fly together from the Serengeti airstrip to the island. Departures from Zanzibar are from Zanzibar International Airport (Abeid Amani Karume International Airport - ZNZ)

Tanzania does NOT require any vaccinations, testing, or otherwise for entry related to COVID-19.

The Tanzania Safari is a culturally immersive experience that requires some additional considerations prior to travel in comparison to Cherish's other offered destinations.
The Tanzania Safari is curated with open-minded and adventurous travelers in mind. We expect all women who sign up for the Safari to be respectful of local cultures and wildlife. You should expect to have long hours in the safari jeep, go off-roading, staying gorgeous boutique properties with mosquito nets, and experience Tanzania culture in its authenticity which may include seeing poverty first-hand.

They are with you to not only facilitate the itinerary but also ensure you have an incredible travel experience. That's why we call our team "Memory Creators". They work with our local partners, tour operators, etc. to seamlessly create an impactful and memorable experience for your vacation.

For the Tanzania Safari, Cherish also hires a local Safari Jeep Driver & Wildlife Guide who will travel with you during the duration of the safari portion of the trip to enhance your experience and teach you about Tanzania's culture, history, and of course, wildlife!

How to Book

You can sign up for the 2025 Tanzania Safari beginning at the end of March by clicking the "Submit Deposit" or "Travel with Us" buttons to open a pop-up menu to make your room selections, enter your personal details, see your payment options, and then submit your payment to join.

The Tanzania Safari requires a non-refundable $500 deposit to be able to secure your spot. You have the option to make 5 additional payments via a payment plan for the remaining trip balance or simply pay in full.

MEET ZAKIA

Support Zakia

Zakia Salum lives in Tanzania with her two brothers and one sister and their parents, both of whom are peasant farmers. The family works hard to cultivate maize, rice, and cassava on their small plot of land using only hand hoes. They live in extreme poverty and are unable to properly sustain or nourish themselves, often surviving on just one or two small meals a day.

Zakia was top of her class while attending school. Unfortunately, Zakia had long distances to walk from home to school and, given her family’s plight, she often spent many hours walking alone in the forest collecting
firewood for cooking. In 2022 when she was walking alone, she was brutalized by a stranger who raped her and ran away. The attack left Zakia pregnant, and she now has an infant daughter who her family is helping to care for. Normally in Tanzania girls are expelled from school if they get
pregnant; however, because Zakia's situation was widely known she was allowed to complete her final exams.

Cherish's upcoming Tanzania Tour will support Zakia in continuing her education and attending Hospitality & Tourism School.
